Investing.com – U.S. stocks were higher at Friday’s close as gains in sectors , and propelled stocks higher.
At the close in NYSE, the rose 1.00%, while the index gained 1.30%, and the index added 2.19%.
The biggest gainers on the session were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:), which rose 5.84% or 1.60 points to trade at 29.00 at the close. American Express Company (NYSE:) added 4.08% or 6.16 points to end at 157.24 and Salesforce Inc (NYSE:) was up 2.63% or 5.53 points at 215.44 late in the session.
The biggest losers were Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:), which fell 1.10% or 1.23 points to trade at 111.07 late in the session. The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:) fell 0.79% or 1.38 points to end at 172.29 and Chevron Corp (NYSE:) fell 0.31% or 0.48 points to 154.08.
The top performers in the S&P 500 were Gap Inc (NYSE:) which rose 12.40% to 8.34, Broadcom Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 11.52% to 812.73 and Arista Networks (NYSE:) which gained 9.06% to close at 170.34.
The worst performers were Ulta Beauty Inc (NASDAQ:) which lost 13.37% to 420.27 late in the session, Kroger Company (NYSE:) which lost 3.25% to 47.31 and Eversource Energy (NYSE:) which fell 3.06% to 68.69. at the close.
The best performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Verastem Inc (NASDAQ:) which rose 125.55% to 1.01, Elevation Oncology Inc (NASDAQ:) up 66.78% to settle at 5.02 and Rapid Automation Inc (NASDAQ:) which gained 63.93% to close at 3.59.
The worst performers were Canaan Inc. (NASDAQ:) which was down 26.74% at 1.89 at the end of the session, mCloud Technologies Corp (NASDAQ:) which fell 24.27% to settle at 0.54 and Acquisition of ROC Energy Corp (NASDAQ:) which was down 22.73% to 8.16 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered declining stocks in 2045 at 935 and 105 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2247 rose and 1314 fell, while 185 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, fell 6.22% to 17.95.
In commodities trading, gold futures for June delivery rose 0.16% or 3.05 to $1,946.75 per troy ounce. Meanwhile, crude oil for July delivery rose 1.35% or 0.97 to $72.80 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.04% or 0. 79 to trade at $77.05 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.01% at 1.07, while USD/JPY was up 0.38% at 140.59.
US dollar index futures fell 0.04% to 104.13.
