A woman is sharing her recent airline drama with others on social media after another woman tried to shame her for traveling with a noisy baby – and for changing seats.

Describing herself as 31 and traveling alone with a 19-month-old son on a three-hour flight, the woman said her child, who was “less than two years old”, had to sit on her lap.

“I also had a big backpack with everything I needed that I kept on the floor and easily accessible,” the woman wrote on the Reddit page known as “AITA” (“Am I the Asshole”).

“It can get crowded quickly, but that’s how it is when you travel alone with a young child.”

The woman continued in her post: “I was assigned a random seat (12C) during screening and ended up in a row with no other empty seats. Although I appreciate that there was a empty seat next to me, because it greatly improves our flying experience, it’s not an expectation I have and I never ask for it.

A woman on Reddit shared her recent airline drama, noting: “A flight attendant came up to me and offered to move us three rows higher… because there were two seats available , and they generally try to accommodate people with young infants.” (iStock)

She said that once the passenger was on board “but before takeoff, a flight attendant came up to me and offered to move us three rows higher… because there were two seats available and ‘They generally tried to accommodate people with young infants.’

The mother added, calling herself “Aggravating-Worth643” on Reddit, “I was delighted and agreed straight away. The flight attendant helped me move my stuff and explained the situation to the other passenger” in that row.

“She started complaining to the flight attendant that she was planning to sleep on the flight and that would now be impossible.”

This didn’t go well, apparently.

“The passenger did not like it at all,” writes the mother. “She began to complain to the flight attendant that she was planning to sleep on the flight and that it would now be impossible for her. That she had specifically chosen this seat during screening. [in] online because the line was empty” – but now it’s “going to be a nightmare”.

The woman said the flight attendant “simply explained that both my seats (old and new) were standard, that the woman had only paid for her own seat and that [the airline’s] The policy is to try to accommodate young parents where possible.

“I just ignored her the whole time, like she wasn’t talking at all,” the mom wrote on Reddit about her recent plane situation. “That made her angrier, but she eventually stopped complaining after a while.” (iStock)

The mother wrote of what happened next: “The woman told me I should be ashamed of putting all this noise on people who are just trying to enjoy their flight. Especially since it wasn’t even my seat and I didn’t even pay. for that.”

The mother added: “Honestly, I’m really not good at confrontation. Usually I end up crying or apologizing, so I just ignored her until the end, like she wasn’t talking at all. This made her even angrier. , but she finally stopped complaining after a while.”

“It’s true that I did not pay for this seat, and that it was not the seat that was originally assigned to me.”

The woman added: “My son ended up crying only once, I got a stink eye and other rude comments – but overall the flight was much more comfortable for us that way, so I don’t really regret changing seats.

She continued: “But I wonder if I’m the [a–hole]. It’s true that I did not pay for this seat, and that it was not the seat that was initially assigned to me.”

In an edit to her post, she clarified that her bag “was held under the seat. It was there during takeoff and landing. It was on the ground the rest of the time for easy access.”

Her young son, one mother wrote on social media (without a photo), had to be on her lap — “the flight attendant insisted on this when she proposed to me [the switched] seats. We are not allowed to bring car seats with us,” she wrote. “They leave with luggage.” (iStock)

She also noted, “My son was on my lap the entire flight (per the flight attendant’s request). The extra seat was just extra space to feel less crowded and not bump elbows. “

She also wrote to clarify, “I’m overweight, yes, but not extremely. I haven’t lost all of my pregnancy weight yet.”

She also noted that she was from Europe.

“The other woman was never guaranteed that those 2 seats would remain empty – they were simply empty when she booked.”

The woman also told others: “I can’t afford to buy an extra seat just to have more space because my son is not allowed to sit there yet.” »

But others took issue with the mother’s apparent size, attitude and behavior.

“You’re a plus-size woman with a toddler and a big bag in front of you,” one writer commented. “This prevents access to other people in your row. You are very inconsiderate towards others and blocking the exit is not only a nuisance, but can be dangerous in [an] emergency.”
