Toyota released a teaser image of a car on May 24 that may preview its next GR-tuned offering. The image is part of a press release about Toyota Gazoo Racing’s plans for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a venue where the motorsport division has previously previewed exciting concepts. The car in the dark teaser shows an unknown light pattern, but has a hint that indicates it’s a near-production concept. Improve!
If we light up the image, we see what appears to be a flat bracket for hanging a front license plate. If it was a racing car, there would be no need for such a thing. Zooming in further on the image reveals five-sided sensor covers in the front bumper that look identical to those on the all-new 2023 Prius.
It wouldn’t be the first time Toyota has GR-ified the Prius. The previous generation benefited from a more menacing body kit with the GR badging but not much in terms of performance. It was a pig both on the drag strip and visually, and there wasn’t much lipstick that a GR makeover could apply. The new Prius, on the other hand, is actually fast and sleek. A GR version actually makes sense.
We don’t want to set our hopes too high thinking that Toyota might give the GR Prius some real performance boosts this time around. However, it should be interesting to see how the Gazoo’d Prius wears its upgraded threads. Those four auxiliary lights are certainly aggressive.
The car will be unveiled around the weekend of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, June 10 and 11. Toyota will also field two GR010 hybrid race cars at the race and expects to continue its five-game winning streak.
