Mike Tindall complains about King Charles coronation: ‘Quite frustrating’

Mike Tindall, Princess Anne’s son-in-law, speaks from his seat at the coronation of King Charles which took place on May 6.

Mike, who is married to Charles’ niece Zara Tindall, shared a recap of the historic ceremony on his ‘The Good, The Bad and The Rugby’ podcast.

“You’re at the hottest point, but it was all just around the corner of a wall you can’t see!” Tindall said, adding a laugh. “You have a front row seat.”

Mike wasn’t actually sitting in the front row. Mike and Zara were seated next to his brother, Peter Phillips, in the row behind Prince Harry, Princess Eugenie and Princess Beatrice. The front row was reserved for Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis, Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh.

Mike, like several other attendees at Westminster Abbey, watched the coronation ceremony on TVs mounted on the walls.

“It was amazing sitting where we were,” Mike continued. “Pretty frustrating that you couldn’t see around the corner, but you had the TV there. And obviously everything was kind of going back and up front. That’s one of those times.”

“I think the best part of the day was the six and a half hours of military foot soldiers who were in the backyard of Buckingham Palace, and they applauded the king three times – it was like whoa, goosebumps,” he continued.

In November, Mike spoke of the first time he met his wife, the late Queen Elizabeth granddaughter, Zara Phillips.

In an episode of the reality show, “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!” Tindall revealed he met Phillips at Manly Wharf Bar during the 2003 Rugby World Cup in Australia.

“I was at the World Cup, she was watching,” he shared. “I got knocked out of the semi-final. I was pissed off so I went for a beer with another guy who was dropped and a guy who was finished [in Sydney]. They had met her before and they introduced us and then chatted.”

Tindall shared that he and Zara hit it off on their first outing together.

“First real date, I just went out for lunch on the spot. And it ended up being pretty boozy,” Tindall explained. “Then we realized that we both like being crushed. It was a good start.”
