The full picture of NBC’s Scripted Originals won’t be finalized until after next week’s initial presentations to Madison Avenue ad buyers.
The network unveiled its fall schedule on Friday and announced that it had renewed George Lopez’s father-daughter rookie comedy Lopez vs. Lopez for a second season. But the program lacked information on the network’s three remaining bubble comedies. Great Crew, Young Rock And American car. Also remains to be determined the fate of four pilots – comedies non-evil twin And St. Denis Medical and dramas murder by the book And Wolf.

Sources say the network won’t decide the fate of the three bubble comedies or its pilots until after initial pitches next week to ad buyers, as NBC continues to move to year-round programming and assesses the impact of the Writers Guild of America’s strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which represents studios, over issues such as streaming residuals and AI.
Season two of Lopez vs. Lopez will return mid-season to NBC, when it joins the schedule alongside returning scripted shows Law & Order: Organized Crime, La Brea And Magnum IP
Lopez, a multi-camera comedy produced in-house by Universal Television, has the highest concentration of English-dominant Hispanic households of any prime-time series, according to NBC. The series also has the most long-tail viewing portion when factoring in 35 days of deferred viewing on Peacock, where the family comedy airs. George Lopez stars alongside his daughter, Mayan Lopez, along with Selenis Leyva, Brice Gonzalez, Matt Shively and Al Madrigal. Creator Debby Wolfe serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Bruce Helford (The Connors), George Lopez, Michael Rotenberg and Katie Newman.
The longer the writers’ strike drags on, the more likely it is to have a direct impact on the ability of scripted shows to return in September.
