Longtime Democratic senator rails against big business inflation, but donor records show different story

Longtime Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. Bob Casey has made “greed” and price gouging at stores a key 2024 election platform, but donor records reviewed by Fox News Digital show that he benefited from the department stores he attacked during the election campaign.

“Bob Casey calls it greed, and he fights back,” says an ad the campaign released in March.

“My plan gives the Federal Trade Commission the power to punish corporate price gouging. Let’s roll back their huge tax breaks to put money where it belongs, in your pocket,” Casey says in the ad.

Another announcement, published in Aprilexplained that the prices of chicken, toilet paper and cereal have all increased, placing the blame on “big business”.

Casey also benefited from the massive cereal producer Kellogg’s, despite criticism from the cereal companies for providing “the same packaging, smaller box, familiar logo, fewer servings amid inflation problems under the administration Biden.”

A review of FEC data shows that PACs associated with Kellogg’s have donated a total of $16,000 to Casey’s campaign since 2017.

Kellogg’s PAC, the Kellogg Company Better Government Committee, no longer exists after Kellogg’s split into two companies last year. The PAC run by WK Kellogg Co. has since donated $1,000 to Bob Casey for Senate.

“CEOs are sneaking around, downsizing their favorite brands, charging more for less. Same packaging, smaller box, familiar logo, fewer servings,” Casey said in the April ad.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Casey campaign, asking if he would consider returning the donations in light of the insults against big corporations and their CEOs.

Both ads do not mention the companies by name, but Casey has previously denounced the companies in various Senate reports released by his office.

“One of the sneakiest examples of shrinkage is a modification made to Dawn Ultra and Dawn Ultra Platinum dish soap. Proctor & Gamble [sic], Dawn’s makers reduced the old 7 ounce dish soap to 6.5 ounces but left the bottle the same physical size at the same price. They simply filled the bottle with a little less liquid and hoped the families wouldn’t notice. The following year, P&G said it saw no need to offer sales or price reductions and celebrated the return of “$3.8 billion in cash to shareholders via approximately $2.3 billion dividends and $1.5 billion in common stock repurchases,” Casey wrote in his report on the inflation contraction. published in 2023.

“Frosted Flakes: Kellogg increased the prices of its products by more than 14% between the second quarter of 2022 and the second quarter of 2023,” detailed Casey’s Greedflation from November.

Inflation has fallen significantly since its 2022 peak at 9.1%, the highest rate since 1981, and now stands at over 3%, still above the Federal Reserve’s 2% target rate. The economy and inflation under the Biden administration have since become a top voting issue heading into the 2024 election.

“Even though inflation has slowed, families continue to pay higher prices, due to corporate greed, or greed. Under the cover of inflation, companies are raising prices on American families and raking in record profits. From July 2020 to July 2022, “Inflation increased by 14 percent while corporate profits increased by more than 74 percent, almost five times the rate of inflation,” adds Casey on his official page. “It’s going to be a close, tough race,” Casey told NBC earlier this year. “But look, there’s a lot at stake every time. Every time I’ve run for public office in Pennsylvania, I’ve had to earn the vote and the trust of the people. And I have to do it again.”

McCormick’s campaign released an ad this week detailing the Bronze Star recipient’s time at West Point.

“I went to West Point with Dave McCormick, and Dave stood out there as a leader in every way,” former U.S. Army Capt. Cliff Harris said in the video. “In the classroom. And as an athlete. Dave McCormick embodies the values of duty, honor and country that are instilled in us at West Point.”
