7-Up Biscuits – Southern cooks

Made with self-rising flour

Several people have asked me for a recipe for 7-Up Biscuits. I looked up several recipes online and on Pinterest and here is my recipe for these cookies. I made two batches of 7-Up Biscuits. The first batch I used Bisquick and the second batch I used self-rising flour.

7-Up Cookies Ingredients needed:

Bisquick or a baking mix like Jiffy or self-rising flour depending on which version you are making

Sour cream

Butter

7Up

Most of the recipes I’ve found online use a baking mix in the recipe instead of flour. Most recipes also called for 2 cups of the baking mix. I found it was not enough and the dough was really wet. Both recipes turned out good. I think the ones that used self-rising flour were bigger, but the ones that used baking mix were maybe a bit fluffier. The bottoms turn brown from the butter and both recipes turned out very good. I really liked the ones with flour a little better than the baking mix and you use less flour. You can choose which one you want to make or cook both and make your own comparison.

You can do your own baking mix, using this recipe. If you do not have self rising flour you can also do it too!

7-Up Cookies Using Baking Mix:

  • 3 cups Bisquick or a baking mix like Jiffy
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine or 4 tbsp melted (I used real butter)
  • 1/2 cup 7Up

7-Up Cookies using self-rising flour:

  • 2 cups self rising flour
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine or 4 tbsp melted (I used real butter)
  • 1/2 cup 7Up
  • Cut the sour cream into the baking mix until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Add the 7-up and mix with a spoon. Pour the melted butter onto your baking sheet. (You will need a baking sheet with sides or a casserole dish. Lay out cookies or roll and cut on butter. Bake in preheated 425 degree oven for 12-15 minutes checking for doneness as ovens vary Note: I cut mine out with a cookie cutter and brushed the top with more melted butter about two minutes before they were cooked. If it’s not browned enough on the top, turn the grill on to last minute or so.) Makes 10 cookies.
