President Biden is launching a new effort to reach Black voters as polls show the president losing ground with this key Democratic constituency to his rival, former President Donald Trump.

The Biden-Harris campaign announced an eight-figure spending campaign Wednesday to boost engagement with Black student organizations, community groups and faith centers nationwide and in battleground states, as the president seeks to rally support for his re-election. Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are expected to speak at a rally in Philadelphia Wednesday afternoon for the first official “Black Voters for Biden-Harris” event.

“Today’s launch of the Black Voters Coalition for Biden-Harris is another example of our campaign working diligently to earn every vote. This coalition and the recently announced summer outreach and engagement programs are the next phase of our campaign’s historic, ongoing investments in outreach to the backbone of the Biden-Harris coalition – Black voters,” said Quentin Fulks, senior deputy campaign manager for the Biden-Harris campaign.

“While we are busy working to win the support of Black America, Donald Trump continues to show how ignorant he is. Hosting crazy rap concerts to hide the fact that he does not have the resources and the skills needed to truly engage our community,” Fulks said. .

Biden’s rally comes days after Trump held a rally in the Bronx, drawing up to 10,000 people to the bluest part of deep blue New York City, according to law enforcement. In his speech, Trump noted that high inflation seen during Biden’s first term in the White House has had a disproportionate effect on Black and Hispanic families and pledged to fix the economy if voters send him back to office. White House.

Trump’s decision to target minority voters in places like New York, where Republicans haven’t won the state in decades, reflects the Trump campaign’s belief that Biden is showing weakness with key Democratic constituencies .

Polls confirm this theory. A recent Fox News poll found Biden with 72% support among Black voters, up from 66% in February, but lagging behind his 79% before the 2020 election. Fox News voter analysis from November 2020 found that 91% of black voters sided with Biden.

A New York Times/Siena poll of six battleground states found that 76 percent of black voters today rate the economy “fair” or “poor,” while only 22 percent rate it “excellent” or ” Good “. The poll reveals that black Americans, like other Americans, place the economy at the top of their concerns.

The Biden-Harris campaign is promising to ramp up outreach to Black voters in the coming months to prevent this from happening. In addition to Wednesday’s rally in Philadelphia, Biden will participate in an event with Black-owned small businesses in the city and the campaign will host an event with national organizations and local community members “focused on direct contact with voters.”

Throughout the summer, the Biden campaign will partner with Black groups to reach Black voters, build the campaign’s presence in swing states and register voters to vote.

“Our campaign believes that Black voters deserve to hear from the Biden-Harris team, and that they deserve to have their vote earned, not taken,” the Biden campaign said. “That’s exactly what we’re doing through historic investments in Black media and outreach, creative engagement efforts, culturally competent content, and innovative organizing initiatives. No campaign has put voters on the map black voters as we have done, including investing earlier and with more money in black voters.

The Biden team also accuses Trump of “pursuing an anti-Black agenda” and “denigrating Black voters.”

The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
