Last season, the Sacramento Kings were one of the surprise teams in the NBA, with head coach Mike Brown helping change the team’s culture, making them relevant again and ending the longest drought in league playoffs.

In addition to leading the Kings back to the playoffs, Brown won NBA Coach of the Year after an impressive first season with the team as its new leader on the sidelines.

Unfortunately, the 2023-24 campaign was not as successful for the Kings, with Sacramento unable to return to the NBA Playoffs as the team was unable to make it out of the Play-In Tournament.

Despite being unable to follow up last season’s success with a repeat performance, the Kings are arguably still heading in the right direction, with Brown deserving of a new contract.

However, it doesn’t appear that Kings executives and Brown are in agreement on a new deal, which has made things a bit complicated, with ESPN’s Amin Elhassan believing it would be a major mistake if the team screws it up via SiriusXM NBA Radio.

“The last time [the Kings] Michael Malone had it so good and ruined it,” Amin said.

While the Kings have an opportunity to once again become a force to be reckoned with in the Western Conference, the team dropping the ball with a viable head coach could result in a two-step backwards rather than a leap forward .

It will be interesting to see how things play out in Sacramento and if the Kings can avoid making what could be a huge mistake with their head coach.
