An ingenious device turns thin air into refreshing water

As water scarcity becomes an increasingly pressing issue in North America (and around the world), Spout companies appears as a beacon of hope; the company specializes in the design of atmospheric water generators and revolutionary machines that condense drinking water from ambient air humidity.

Today (8/5/2023) marks the launch of their first consumer product: a compact generator that fits effortlessly on a counter, measuring 8.5 inches wide, 19 inches deep, and 15 inches tall. .

Operating with the simplicity of a standard wall outlet, this device requires minimal input and can produce up to 2.5 gallons of water per day. Remarkably, around 80% of homes worldwide reside in climates that are humid enough to benefit from this innovative creation, according to Spout.

Co-founder Reuben Vollmer’s inspiration to harness atmospheric water came from his parents’ olive farm in drought-ravaged California – as he was walking his dog, he noticed dew on the grass, sparking his quest to solve the problems of access to water. In 2014, Vollmer founded DewGood to develop atmospheric water generators, despite initial setbacks.

The overwhelming global demand for their technology fueled his motivation. In 2019, Vollmer partnered with Tyler Breton to create Spout, focusing on creating smaller, more affordable, and quieter units. The Spout system uses clay, heating coils and condensation to produce alkaline water, protected by UV light.

Working with Bould Design, Spout successfully launched the $599 Liberation unit (and the company estimates consumers will spend an additional $100 per year on filter replacements) – now it’s being sold for $399 with a $99 pre-order deposit fee. Shipping starts in July 2023. More details on the official website.
