We all know swimsuit shopping is a bear. But I’m here to tell you that I found a unicorn (what the hell is this animal thing?!). But seriously, I brought the new Pique Shaping Plunge One-Piece from Spanx on a recent trip to Italy and I’ve never felt better in a swimsuit. I’ve been a longtime fan of the brand’s shapewear and clothing, so when they offered to send me a suit to test out, I jumped at the chance and it arrived just in time for my vacation.

After my eight hour flight I was sore and tired and wanted nothing more than to relax in my hotel’s spa area which had a swimming pool, sauna and salt room. When I changed my airplane gear and put the one-piece on for the first time, I was pleasantly surprised at how flattering it was.
The sleek black suit has a plunging v-neckline in the front and back and a high leg bottom that didn’t dig in and made my legs look even longer. It has a beautifully textured fabric that gives it a fashionable feel and smooths out bumps and bumps. Like the brand’s signature shapewear, the swimsuit features a powerful mesh that literally sucked me everywhere. Score!
The back provided just enough coverage without looking matronly and the straps stayed in place the entire time I wore it. It comes with removable bust cups, which I kept on as they gave me a nice shape and lifted everything up to give a hint of cleavage without feeling too exposed. I can honestly say the bathing suit was so flattering it gave me a big boost of confidence walking into the Italian spa – much needed after such a long flight.
And I wasn’t the only one to think so. As soon as I walked in I received several compliments on the low key swimsuit and a few people asked me where I got it. In fact, I loved it so much that I wore it a few days later as a bodysuit to dinner, capitalizing on the revival of the bodysuit trend. This was especially handy as the pants I had planned to wear had gotten a little tight after a few days of pasta, but once I put the bathing suit on it all sucked up and my pants went back up as if by magic.
One-piece swimsuit sizing ranges from XS to 4XL, so finding the perfect fit should be easy. At $188 it’s pricey, but since I plan to wear it all summer – both on and off the beach – I’d say it’s well worth the price and would definitely buy another one if more of colors are published (index, allusion to Spanx).
